The Hidden Territories:
Special Edition

A solo and cooperative fantasy adventure board game of hexcrawling, quests, factions and emergent story in the Kingdom of Westri.

Coming first to Kickstarter. Later campaign and late-pledge availability may follow through Gamefound or Indiegogo.

You are adventurers

Explore dangerous places. Make choices. The world reacts and remembers.

The Hidden Territories is a rules-complete, system-led fantasy adventure board game for one to four players. You cross a vast hex map, commit Attribute dice to Actions, resolve Encounters and branching entries in the Tome of Twistime, and leave visible consequences behind in the world.

The game

A complete fantasy adventure system in one box.

Travel across Westri, follow rumours, discover Landmarks, confront Denizens, meet named Strangers and become entangled in pressures already moving through the kingdom.

There is no Game Master and no scripted route. Action Cards, committed Attribute dice, 2d6 tables, cards, Conditions and the core components resolve play.

Inside the box

Built around core components.

The First Edition prototype demonstrates the scale of the physical game. The Special Edition will refine the presentation, materials and packaging as production specifications are locked.

Core components

Four books. One living territory.

The rules, branching adventures, geography and named actors are divided into dedicated references so the table can find what it needs without collapsing the world into a single rulebook.

01

Rules Codex

The executable procedures for Actions, travel, combat, Conditions, recovery and world-state change.

02

Tome of Twistime

Contained branching adventures keyed to Encounters, Events, Landmarks and the changing state of play.

03

Gazetteer

The spatial reference for Westri: its five hundred map hexes, regions, settlements, Landmarks and points of interest.

04

Notable Personages

Named actors embedded in factions, places and rivalries, each resolved through visible system guidance.

05

Map and trackers

The Kingdom of Westri, the Quest Tracker, seasonal and lunar state, Threat, and other shared campaign surfaces.

06

Cards, dice and tokens

Action, Encounter, Event, Rumour and Stranger decks with Attribute dice and physical state markers.

Decades in the making

This did not appear overnight.

The Hidden Territories began as a tabletop campaign in the late 1970s. Over decades it evolved through handwritten notes, home-built maps, playtests, prototype boxes, commissioned illustration and repeated redesign into the First Edition shown here.

A world built to explore

Peril, wonder and consequence.

Licensed classic fantasy art, newly commissioned illustrations and original work developed across the game’s long history give Glatheriel a varied visual record rather than a single polished veneer.

Adventurers camp beneath strange skies while danger gathers beyond the firelight.

Threats worthy of long campaigns

Designed for long campaigns

Hours and hours of extended play.

The Hidden Territories is not intended to be completed in a weekend. Each expedition uncovers only a fraction of Westri. Locations, quests, Strangers, Encounters, Landmarks, Rumours and Events recombine through visible state and procedural tables.

Adventurers gather around a map in a tavern to plan an expedition.
Choose-your-own-adventure-style narrative and procedural tables produce different pressures at every table.

The game draws upon a home campaign begun in the late 1970s, decades of fantasy gaming, choose-your-own-adventure books, mythology, folklore, sword-and-sorcery fiction and the hard lessons of repeated physical prototyping. The result is an original, GM-less adventure board game in which players choose, the system resolves, and Glatheriel remembers.
